"The community sample was screened using the Modified Mini-Mental State Examination (3MS)[13]. People who screened positive (3MS score
<78; n=1,165) and a random sample who scored greater than 77 (n=494) were examined clinically, as were all institutionalized respondents. A nurse, physician, and neuropsychologist made assessments[14]. Diagnoses were made at a consensus conference, using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Third Edition, Revised criteria."
